What is Direct Bonding?

Direct bonding is a cosmetic procedure that can also be used to protect your oral health, depending on the severity of your dental damage. When you visit our office for your procedure, you’ll be greeted and taken back to one of our treatment rooms. Dr. Beaty will get to work by assessing the damage and smoothing out any sharp edges of your tooth if necessary. He’ll then match a putty-like substance called composite resin to the color of your natural teeth and place a special liquid to roughen up the enamel, so the resin creates a strong bond with your tooth.

Using the color-matched putty, he’ll mold it to resemble the missing structure of your damaged tooth and gently apply it to the area. To get a more natural look, he may use multiple shades and create a feathering effect. Finally, he’ll use a special light to cure and bond the resin before making any final adjustments.

Compared to other cosmetic procedures, dental tooth bonding in Federal Way gives patients a faster and more cost-effective solution to repair their teeth. Typically, the process takes between 30 and 60 minutes per tooth. It’s also important to note that more severe or complex situations may require a more extensive treatment such as porcelain veneers, which we will address with you during your consultation. However, bonding is a great middle ground, allowing you to restore your grin and enjoy some great benefits, including:

  • A custom and natural appearance.
  • Restored confidence.
  • Improved oral health.
  • Fast procedure.
  • Long-lasting solution when properly cared for.
  • Little to no preparation of your natural teeth.

Most patients are relieved to know that caring for bonded teeth is rather easy and doesn’t require any special attention. By brushing twice every day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing at least once a day, your bonded teeth can last anywhere from three to 10 years. Also, don’t forget to schedule your routine checkups and cleanings with Dr. Beaty every six months! He’ll examine your teeth and gums and make any necessary repairs or adjustments to your bonded teeth!
